Shondra Kinsolvinggrew up as Sandra Asplin with her brother Benjamin in a household with an abusive father and a weak-minded mother. The father beat his children for beingmeta-humanwhile their mother stood idly by. Eventually Benjamin realized the potential that he and his sister shared, and they killed their father, leaving their mother alive until years later, when they murdered her as well, from half-way across the globe.
Doctor Kinsolving was an esteemed physiotherapist living inGotham City. When Batman was crippled by the monster known as Bane, Doctor Kinsolving was asked to oversee his recovery. She was astounded by his rapid recovery and began to suspect that he was lying to her about what really occurred to cause the injuries he had sustained. Bruce began to feel he could confide in Shondra and even began to have feelings for her.

Let’s see if this ends up in the Batman movie franchise.

Beginning in March, a black woman will be at the helm of a major fire department for the first time in U.S. history. Theresa Deloach-Reed, 52, was named chief of the Oakland city fire department. Reed has been fighting fires for nearly 30 years, has seen many changes on the job and calls her appointment “exciting.”

With less that four percent of firefighters female and nearly 6 percent black, Reed says that the key to changing those figures is recruitment. She said, “Women in the fire department have to go out and tell other women it’s a great profession, because there is still this stereotype that women are not firefighters.”

The Huffington Post reported that Ava Duvernay became the first black woman to win ‘best director’ at Sundance Film Festival Sunday. Her film, Middle of Nowhere is the second full-length feature for the director.

I woke up every day trying to figure out a new way to sue LAPD and the LA county Sheriffs, because they were such a negative, humiliating, and emasculating force in Black and Brown communities.

Check out this NPR interview with Connie Rice, civil rights attorney, activist, and yes, Condoleeza Rice’s cousin!

Mara Brock Hill, creator of “The Game” is profiled by NPR.

Nicole “Nikki” Lyons is fueled by the same horsepower that ignites the cars she races. Although Lyons is only 5’6”, her exotic beauty, spirited personality and kinetic intensity make her seem larger than life. However, those that learn about this multi-faceted athlete are amazed, while she carves a niche for herself as one of the world’s premier female professional race car drivers. As Lyons continues to fulfill her dreams, she has already created history, as the first African-American female to race professionally in the NHRA.

What you know about that?

"On Nov. 15, 1866, Cathay Williams enlisted in the Army using the name William Cathay. She informed her recruiting officer that she was a 22-year-old cook. He described her as 5’ 9”, with black eyes, black hair and black complexion. An Army surgeon examined Cathay and determined the recruit was fit for duty, thus sealing her fate in history as the first documented black woman to enlist in the Army even though U.S. Army regulations forbade the enlistment of women. She was assigned to the 38th U.S. Infantry and traveled throughout the West with her unit. During her service, she was hospitalized at least five times, but no one discovered she was a female. After less than two years of service, Cathay was given a disability discharge but little is known of the exact medical reasons."
